Three new AIIMS institutes to come up in Gujarat, Jammu And Kashmir
The Union cabinet has given its nod for the establishment of three new AIIMS institute at Samba in Jammu, Pulwama in Kashmir and Rajkot in Gujarat. All the proposed new institutes will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), a statement from the central government said. The statement further added that the main aim of the move is to provide quality tertiary healthcare, medical education, nursing education and research in the regions. Establishing new AIIMS will involve providing Hospital, Teaching Block for medical and nursing courses, residential complex and allied facilities/services all of which will be based on the AIIMS in New Delhi and other six new AIIMS taken up under Phase-I of PMSSY. The institute in Samba is expected to be up and running in 48 months while for the Pulwama, Kashmir AIIMS, the government has estimated the time of 72 months before it becomes operational. The AIIMS proposed in Rajkot is expected to be operational in 45 months. Each new AIIMS will add 100 MBBS seats, 60 B.Sc. Nursing seats, 15-20 Super Specialty Departments along with 750 hospital beds which will include Emergency / Trauma Beds, AYUSH Beds, Private Beds and ICU Speciality and Super Speciality beds, a statement said. Construction of new AIIMS is fully funded by the central government. All the operational and maintenance expenses will also be borne by the same. It is expected that each of the new AIIMS will cater to the needs of 1500 OPD patients per day and around 1000 IPD patients per month.
