No compartment exams for the students of class 11 of the Jharkhand Board
The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has decided not to conduct any compartment exams for the students who have failed class 11. The council said that this will provide the opportunity only to deserving candidates to appear for the class 12th exams of the Jharkhand Board. Nearly 30,000 students are awaiting the class 11th compartment exam and the council has decided against it.Mahip Kumar Singh, Education Officer, said, “Students who have failed in one exam and cleared four out of five subjects have also been promoted to class 12. There will not be any compartment exam for class 11 and those who have failed in more than one exam will have to repeat a year.”The board had conducted a special exam last year but now the board is reverting to its former practice and students who will fail in more than one subject will have to repeat class 11. Compartment exams for classes 8, 9 and 10 will continue to take place. An additional 6.39 percent of students were promoted to class 12 apart from 82.61 percent of the 2.54 lakh students who appeared for class 11 exams this year. The remaining 28,703 students who were not promoted to class 12 (they failed in more than one subject) consider this to be an unfair move.A JAC government school teacher on condition of anonymity commented, “Students prepare hard for their exam and it is natural to feel disappointed as unlike last year, they will not get a chance for the compartment exam. The rules change every year. While there was a notification released by the board, it is not possible for JAC to inform every student. It is the responsibility of schools to inform students well in advance and alert them, however, the uncertainty and confusion still prevail.”
