Telangana state to get new Indian Institute of Management (IIM)
The Union Government is all set to approve a new Indian Institute of Management for Telangana. Telangana state was carved out of Andhra Pradesh five years ago.The HRD Ministry has already prepared a proposal for the same and a Cabinet note will be prepared once the proposal gets the minister’s stamp of approval. It is expected that Hyderabad will be the home of the new institute.Last week, PMO wrote to the ministry to give a high-priority to the matter and also asked to take decisions on several other requests received from the state. The ministry was given one week to decide on the matter. The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act promised an IIT, NIT, IIM, IISER, central university, petroleum university, agricultural university and IIIT for Andhra Pradesh, and a tribal university and horticulture university for Telangana. An IIM was not in the original proposal but this is all about to change.Since 2014, the NDA government has already established seven new IIMs in Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and J&K.
