JNU Entrance Test updates: NTA to take charge of the exam as JNU canceled the exam
JNU University postponed its entrance test as it decided to rope in the newly formed ‘National Testing Agency’ for the same. Now, the exam will be conducted by the NTA. In another development, JNU has decided to double the number of centers which will be very useful for the candidates. The university will also introduce Mock Test Centers to help candidates familiarize themselves with the online test pattern. As a result, the JNU entrance exam (JNUEE) has been postponed and now will be conducted online in May 2019. Earlier, the exam was scheduled on December 27-30, 2018. The university in its 148th academic council meeting also announced that in 2019-20 academic session, the university will offer 1080 M.Phil and Ph.D. seats as opposed to 720 seats which were offered in last year’s academic session. JNU is the first central university to collaborated with the NTA for its entrance exam. In October, the university had said “ it is in the process of hiring a private vendor for managing the centers where the exams will be conducted.” The JNUSU has been constantly opposing the online avatar of the JNUEE saying ‘it negates a comprehensive evaluation of analytical, writing and other skills which are so very necessary, particularly in humanities and social sciences’. So far, NTA has successfully conducted its first national level exam, the National Eligibility Test.
