Digital solution from Microsoft will prevent the CBSE paper leak
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) came under heavy criticism from entire nation when its class 10th and 12th question papers got leaked and the the children had to pay the price. In order to prevent such mishaps from happening again, CBSE has forged a partnership with the Microsoft who will develop digital solution for the CBSE in order to prevent such leaks. Microsoft has already developed an encrypted security solution for the CBSE which caters to the 20299 schools of the nation. “We have developed for CBSE an innovative solution which makes question papers leak-proof until 30 minutes prior to the start of the examinations,” Anil Bhansali, Managing Director, Microsoft India (R&D) and Corporate Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise, told IANS in a telephonic interaction. “But if the question papers get leaked after they are allowed to download (just half an hour before the start of the exam) due to some bad actors, the system allows easy traceability as question paper for each center are watermarked,” Bhansali said. At present the solution is in testing phase and has passed its first pilot run with flying colors. The first pilot run of the encrypted system was run in July during the compartment exams during the digital question papers generation and their delivery was successful at 487 exam centers. Using the system, the examination controller is able to track the entire process using the software solution built on Windows 10 and Office 365. The overall process is encrypted and uses two factor authentication for the extra security. Examiners are required to identify themselves before they can download the examination papers. “The system allows various authentication process. For example, it can be OTP (one-time password) based or bio-metric based. It is up to the clients what two authentication process they want to choose,” Bhansali added.
