Venkaiah Naidu urged NITs to focus on innovation
“Innovation is no longer a luxury but a necessity for a country like India and institutions like NITs should focus on innovation in a big way,” said President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday. Naidu was present at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Warangal in Telangana and praised the institution for its initiatives to promote technological and scientific research. He insisted that technological institutes such as NITs should focus extensively on the innovation. Observing that India is progressing towards becoming a five trillion dollar economy by 2025 he said that the growth story of India has stormed the world by surprise and that foreign businesses wish to invest in the nation’s markets. “The innovation should keep the coming 20 years in mind and it should also be clean and green”, he said. “Innovations help in combating corruption and pilferage of subsidies. Innovation makes it possible to overcome the most pressing problems of our time efficiently and effectively,” Naidu said. The Vice President said as the nation is preparing to cut the red tape and lay the carpet for the world it must also work on making its procedures simple and transparent. He also insisted that the institutes like NITs need to have links with the industries and its alumni. The Vice President also hoped that engineers passing out from the premier institutes like NITs will use their knowledge to address the societal problems related to drinking water, health, transportation and education and will contribute greatly in improving the lives of the people.
