Cross culture discussions, not dispute are necessary for the society’s growth: Kovind
On Wednesday, Ram Nath Kovind stressed the importance of delivering value-based education to the children as it helps in promoting a healthy cross-culture discussion rather than dispute which is necessary for the growth of the society. "Lessons that a child imbibes in the school that may not be formally tested in the board examination, but these are the lessons of culture, character, compassion and courage. The child who internalizes these values will always be sensitive towards the world outside," he said. Kovind was present on the inauguration ceremony of the Sadhu Vaswani International School at Sadhu Vaswani Mission. He also took a moment to reflect on the contributions of some of the great people from Pune such as Mahatma Phule, Savitribai Phule, M G Ranade, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Gopal Ganesh Agarkar in the field of education. "Each one of them placed an emphasis on education, the culture of discussion rather than that of dispute, and of addressing the disagreement while being mindful of the other person's dignity," he said. "Pune has been a center of education for Maharashtra and for the country. The story of modern India owes much to the educational, reformist and progressive ideas that have flowed from this city and for which our nation is truly appreciative," the president said. He also shed the light on the efforts of the Sadhu Vaswani and described him as one of the greatest nation builders who taught everyone how to prevent the cultural background with the techniques of the modern science. Other than Kovind other remarkable leaders who were present on the occasion were BJP patriarch Lal Krishna Advani, Maharashtra Governor K Vidyasagar Rao, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and Dada J P Vaswani. Kovind also unveiled the statue of the Ramabai Ambedkar, who was the wife of Babasaheb Ambedkar. "Like Babasaheb, Ramabai also contributed towards the eradication of untouchability and social equality. Her life is inspirational for every Indian woman," he said.
