Prakash Javadekar | IITs and IIMs to assist in the accreditation of the educational institutes

On Saturday, Prakah Javadekar said that to speed up the process of assessment and accreditation of the higher educational institutes the government is roping in IITs and IIMs which will assist the official agencies such as NAAC and NBA in the same. He also said that National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) will be expanded and premier institutes -- IITs and IIMs -- can also join the hands to fast track the entire process. At present only 15 percent of the higher education institute in the nation are accredited. “We have asked IITs and IIMs to come together and create an agency which we can use to expedite the process of accreditation,” the minister told reporters. He added “accreditation from now onwards will be based on “learning outcome” and quality of education should be the key parameter for determining the standard of an institute.” Speaking at the event the minister said that 80 percent of the weight will given to the learning outcomes and peer reviews for the accreditation and the physical verification of the campuses will be done with the help of satellites. “An institute which maintains quality will only survive and those who fail to do so will be out of business,” he said.
