To improve the standard of education, Delhi government to build 12,000 new rooms in the schools

In the coming one and a half year, the Delhi government has announced that will build 12,000 new rooms in the state-run schools in order to improve the infrastructure and standard of education in the state, said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. On Twitter, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal dubbed the move as a massive infrastructure boost for the education sector of the national capital. According to the government, the entire project will incur a cost of around INR 2,892 crores. Sisodia said “the cabinet sanctioned construction of a total 12,748 rooms in Delhi government schools, including 9,981 classrooms, 106 multipurpose halls and 328 laboratories.” This also includes 204 libraries, principal, vice principal and staff rooms, as well as 1,067 toilet blocks. Of the total cost, 1300 crores will be given in the current fiscal year and the remaining 1,562.65 crore will be given in the 2019-20 fiscal year. “These rooms will be constructed in the next one to one and half years,” Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, said. Sisodia further added that the government wants to develop the capacity of the state-run schools so that they can accommodate 44 lakh children studying there easily. As of 2015, the AAP government has built nearly 8000 rooms in the state-run schools and with the construction of new rooms, the total number will cross 20,000. Sisodia said “the need for new rooms in schools will always be felt as children from private schools have now started moving to Delhi government-run schools due to improved facilities and education there.”
