Delhi government working on a new way for teachers to learn
The Directorate of Education is working on a project under which it has proposed to upload the videos of the teachers who have devised the best methodologies of study. These videos will then be used as reference material for other teachers to learn from. A committee of ten members has been constituted for the task. The main aim of the committee is to identify the topics and teachers which will feature in these videos. According to an official, in its initial stage, the project will cover the syllabus and teachers from classes VI to XII. “The project is under the Science and TV branch. The aim is to identify the best teaching methodologies currently being employed by teachers and making these available as a resource. Once the teachers are identified, the videos will be shot and uploaded on YouTube. While the videos can be used by students, it is primarily for the reference of other teachers,” said Director of Education Sanjay Goel. Goel further said that the videos will start getting uploaded by the end of December or beginning of January. He also added that the committee will decide whether the videos will focus on chapters or on particular concepts. “Currently this is not being envisioned as a chapter-by-chapter exercise. How it will be taken forward depends on the response to the initial phase and the resources we have,” said Goel. The mentor teacher program had been initiated by the Delhi government under which selected government school teachers to train their counterparts in teaching methodologies and pedagogy.
