JNU students demand accountability of the fee paid by them
Not happy with the services provided by the college, the engineering students of the JNU have written to the VC demanding the accountability of the fees paid by them for various facilities. The letter mentioned that the students have been facing various hardships from the day one of their admissions. The engineering students are being supported by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU). "Their course had started with no school building, no lab facilities, no hostel facilities and other necessary facilities," the JNUSU said. Engineering students have already deposited INR 10,000 as mess advance, Rs. 5,000 as security deposit, Rs. 5,000 as establishment charges and Rs. 6,000 as license fee, electricity, water, service charge, totaling Rs. 26,000 per semester, excluding the tuition fee and yet they are being forced to pay from their pockets from the last two months at the Damodar Mess. The mess facility was not available for the engineering students until they repeatedly raised the issue with the JNUSU, the letter said. Now, in bizarre turn of event the administration is saying that mess advance is security amount which will be refunded after five years, the letter mentioned. "However, the students have already paid Rs. 5,000 as security deposit."
