J&K no longer a part of India says, Maharashtra’s SSC textbook

J&K no longer a part of India says, Maharashtra’s SSC textbook

This year newly printed textbooks of the SSC (Maharashtra) depicted a large part of the J&K outside the boundary lines of the India. Not only this, but the textbooks also contain faulty picture of the national flag. These and other such errors were pointed out by the Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil in a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In the letter Patil also demanded the immediate arrest of the person/s guilty and responsible for this gauche act. All these errors belong to the class 10 Geography textbook. Patil pointed that all the errors are in the textbooks recently published by the Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production & Curriculum Research for the academic year starting 2018. “In chapter 3, page 24, a map of India is published but it is very erroneous as a large part of Jammu & Kashmir is not shown within the borders of the country,” he said in the letter. Similarly, in chapter 2, page 9, national falg has been published in which the color of the Ashok Chakra is wrong. He further said that earlier, the textbook was kept in a seminar for a review when former school Principal K.U. Sonawane and others raised some serious objection and asked to make the necessary corrections.  “However, the required changes were not made and the textbooks carry the wrong images of India and the national tricolour, besides many other mistakes which have crept into the book,” Vikhe-Patil said. Patil demanded that mistakes be rectified and a revised version of the book should be made available from the next academic year.

Mumbai University to use holograms on answer sheets

Mumbai University to use holograms on answer sheets

In a bid to eliminate the errors and publish the results of the exams on time the Mumbai University, which will continue with the onscreen assessment, will introduce holograms on the answer sheets. During the last year’s result fiasco, one of the reasons for the delay was that the sheets of the students could not be reconciled. In order to avoid such blunder, holograms containing the information of the students will be pasted on the answer sheets so that manual entry and related errors can be prevented. “Currently the answer sheets take in details through the bubble system where the students have to fill in the bubbles. This leads to several errors and reconciliation becomes difficult. Most institutes that use online assessment also have hologram system in place. So, we will introduce the system in the winter semester exam this year,” said Arjun Ghatule, acting director, Board of Examination and Assessment.

CBSE: Physical education mandatory for classes 9-12

CBSE: Physical education mandatory for classes 9-12

Soon physical education will become a mandatory subjects for classes 9-12 in all the CBSE affiliated schools as CBSE has mandated the guidelines for the schools to have daily sports period. The main aim of the move is to keep the students away from the sedentary lifestyle and to protect keep them from becoming couch potatoes. With the health as a main focus of the CBSE, it will be mandatory for the schools to have a sports period during which students will have to go to the playground but will be free to perform any physical activity listed in the manual and will be graded accordingly. “Health is often a state of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Hence, we have decided to mainstream health and physical education for class 9 to 12 with the aim of preventing them from having a sedentary lifestyle or turn into couch potatoes,” a senior CBSE official told PTI. The school has also prepared a 150 page manual for the schools detailing the sport guideline and how to implement them. The “Health and Physical Education (HPE)” will be different from the Physical Education (PE) elective which is offered to the students of classes 10-12. “Earlier, there used to be two co-scholastic areas — Health and Physical Education and Work Education. Now the two have been merged and the total periods allocated for the two will be used for HPE. This will ensure that schools are under no pressure of adjusting the time tables at the cost of academic subjects,” the official said. “The whole process of HPE will be school-based and will be evaluated and implemented by school teachers only. The marks or grades will have to be submitted by schools on the CBSE website,” the official added. Participation in the HPE will be mandatory to be eligible for the board exams but marks will not be added for the final assessment.
