JEE Mains results declared; Students upset over the NTA selection process

JEE Mains results declared; Students upset over the NTA selection process

The National Testing Agency has announced the results of the Joint Entrance Exam held in April 2019. The results are available on the official portal of the JEE mains -- jeemain.nic. Students are however in shock after the declaration of the results as the qualifying percentile for this year’s exam is 89. Last year the qualifying percentile was 74. "The qualifying percentile for JEE Advanced is 89. Earlier, average qualifying percentile was 74, therefore students were not expecting it to go above 80, " says Alia Mirza, an aspirant who qualified JEE Mains. Those who have cleared the JEE Mains can now fill the form for the JEE Advanced between May 3 and May 9, 2019. After the declaration of the results of the JEE Advanced, students would head for the counseling from various institutes. Students are upset with the results as with the increase in the qualifying percentile the overall ranks have been dipped. Some of the tweets from the angry students are below: Students are upset because under the CBSE students had to appear only for single mains exam but under the NTA students appeared for the two mains exam. First JEE Mains was held in January and the second edition was held in April. "This year there were two different exams in multiple sitting. Also, the difficulty level varied from exam-to-exam," Mirza says.

CBSE to assess class 10th students in English and Maths through internal exams

CBSE to assess class 10th students in English and Maths through internal exams

From 2020 onwards, CBSE will conduct class 10th English and Maths exams at school levels. A total of 20 marks will be assigned for the school-based assessment for each exam. In order to be considered for the board exam, students will first require to clear the school-based internal assessment of English and Math exams. The system was already in place for the class 12 students for some subjects and now the same has been extended to class 10th students as well. CBSE called the move learner-centric and said that the need for the internal assessment is increasing. Once the rule is in place the marks of the main theory exams will be reduced to 80 for each subject. The board has already communicated the changes to the affiliated schools via official notice. From 2020, students of class 10 will also have an option to choose the difficulty level of their math exam. Those who will opt for the easier version will not be allowed to take the Math as a major subject in higher studies. “Students are habitual of writing answers as written in the textbooks. It is important that they develop their own style of writing and not mere reproduce what the books say. Thus, we have issued instructions to give consideration to students who adopt their own writing style,” said CBSE spokesperson. The current format will discourage the students to mug up books and write answer creatively, he further added.

Student body demands to provide exam center for the CSIR NET Exam at Kozhikode

Student body demands to provide exam center for the CSIR NET Exam at Kozhikode

Kozhikode district committee of Fraternity Movement has started an online campaign demanding that CSIR provide the examination center for the CSIR NET exam in Kozhikode. CSIR NET exam is held for determining the eligibility of the candidate for lectureship and awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in science streams. According to the Fraternity, the number of aspirants from Kerala are increasing and Malabar region stands out as it covers more than 50% of Kerala's total population and has universities with the highest number of students intake. "In the present scenario, candidates from Malabar region face extreme hardship relying on centers in Cochin and Trivandrum allocated in Kerala, though there is a sizable number of candidates from Malabar compared to other parts of Kerala," an online petition filed by the organisation says. "Geographically and historically, the Malabar region in Kerala has been neglected in various fronts, including education and its delivery. For CSIR NET exam, both the centres have been allocated in South Kerala and thousands of students from the Northern Kerala are compelled to travel for the exams to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram," says Fraternity district president Raheem K. "This is a case of complete regional in-balance and it continues. We demand that the CSIR must allocate a centre in Kozhikode for the next edition of the exam," he added. "Currently, Kozhikode, which has emerged as a technological hub, has all the facilities and educational institutions to host all the major competitive exams," he said. Of the total 27 centers, CSIR allocated two centers in Kerala, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
