CBSE affiliated schools to become 'Anger-Free Zones'

CBSE affiliated schools to become 'Anger-Free Zones'

CBSE has asked all of its affiliated schools to become ‘anger-free zones’ where everyone - parents, teachers, administration staff etc. will try to control their anger and will set an example for children and teach them how important it is to free from anger. The board says that this will make the students mentally active and emotionally healthy. They will be able to go home charged and happy and will be happy to return the next day to the school. The CBSE has also issued an advisory to the school and said that this initiative is a part of its "joyful education and holistic fitness" thrust. The recommendations mentioned in the advisory include not looking at the cell-phone all the time and breathing exercises by all. The board has also asked the students to record their experience and announce their initiative on social media to become an anger-free zone using the hashtag, "cbsenoanger". "In the anger-free zone, everyone will try to manage his or her anger, whether it is the school educators, parents, school personnel or other stakeholders. The best way to teach children the value of 'freedom from anger' is by setting examples ourselves," CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi said in a communication sent to schools. "Making our schools anger-free zones will help our students in developing effective skills and in eradicating emotions like fear, disrespect, humiliation and hurt, which are the by-products of anger," Mr. Tripathi said. The board has also asked the schools to place board messages on strategic locations in their campus -- “This is an Anger-Free Zone”."Children are the harbingers of change. What they learn in the school, they will teach that to their parents. Imagine children going home and telling their parents 'you are not allowed to be angry'."Therefore, as a part of this initiative, schools must also take up exercises with children to help them overcome their anger issues and also empower them with tools so that they can help others overcome their anger issues," Mr. Tripathi added.

Ad-hoc teachers can continue until permanent teachers are appointed

Ad-hoc teachers can continue until permanent teachers are appointed

On Friday, Delhi University issued an order to all of its affiliated colleges stating that ad-hoc faculty can continue to teach until permanent teachers are appointed. The order was issued at the behest of the HRD Ministry. Earlier, three colleges— Aryabhatta College, Lady Shri Ram College and Keshav Mahavidyalaya— issued notices suggesting the end of services of the ad-hoc teachers, however they clarified that the orders were issued in the absence of any specific orders from the DU administration.DU registrar Tarun Kumar Das told The Indian Express, “No direction has been issued by the university for termination of ad hoc teachers in respect of the colleges. College principals are responsible for any action taken by them.”On December 5, the government asked the University to amend its August 28 circular to categorically state that ad-hoc teachers can continue the services until the permanent appointments are made.In the August 28 circular, DU has advised colleges to “fill permanent vacancies at the earliest,” and appoint guest faculty in the interim “against new vacancies arising first time in 2019-20” which caused confusion among the colleges and as a result many colleges did not issue appointment letters to the ad-hoc teachers (renewal letters) and did not issue their salaries.“Colleges shall fill permanent vacancies in a timebound manner… if vacancies which have to be filled for maintaining smooth academic functioning of colleges/ institutions, ad hoc/temporary/ contract/guest faculty can be appointed till permanent faculty is recruited,” read DU’s Friday order.

Conducting exams on WhatsApp; JNUTA reaches out to Ram Nath Kovind

Conducting exams on WhatsApp; JNUTA reaches out to Ram Nath Kovind

JNUTA reaches out to Ram Nath Kovind over the issue of conducting exams on WhatsApp. On Wednesday, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Association (JNUTA) wrote to the President against the administration’s decision to conduct exams via WhatsApp. They said that move will make JNU “the laughingstock of academia the world over”.As students of the university are boycotting the exams the university decided to send question papers to the students through email, and they are expected to respond with the answers via WhatsApp. “It may be considered shocking that a vice-chancellor of an institution of higher learning could even imagine reducing the evaluation system to something like this, which would never be acceptable as a credible exercise… We, however, keep learning there are no limits to the absurdities Prof Jagadesh Kumar can inflict on the institution he heads. By asking teachers to participate in this travesty, he wants us to join him in destroying the JNU’s hard-earned reputation for maintaining high academic standards,” the JNUTA wrote. “He is also in the process asking us to join him in violating the provisions of the JNU Act, Statutes and Ordinances that the V-C and teachers are bound by. These define the process through which the academic requirements of different courses and programmes, including the evaluation systems, are to be decided…. ,” they added.“JNU’s teaching-learning was one of the most significant casualties of Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar’s autocracy. Today he has offered the starkest evidence of this by proposing a mockery of that process as his solution to the crisis in JNU. JNU’s teachers appeal to you to see that Professor M. Jagadesh Kumar’s continuation in office is also doing great damage to your standing as Visitor of the University….we request you again, and through you also to the MHRD, to please act and act immediately to abort this destruction of a premier public institution,” the JNUTA said.
