DU yet to finalize the Agency for its undergraduate entrance exam

DU yet to finalize the Agency for its undergraduate entrance exam

Delhi University’s admission committee is yet to make a final call on the agency which will conduct the entrance exam on behalf of the university for its various undergraduate courses. Last year, the University had started the admission process from May 15, but this time the dates to commence the admission process are not final. However, the standing committee has made the recommendation that the process can be started from May 27 but the final decision is still pending. Rajeev Gupta, dean, Students’ Welfare said that dates for the entrance exam are yet to be finalized. "The portal is the same for merit-based courses and entrance exam based courses. The admission process will start once the dates are finalized. We are yet to finalize the agency that will be conducting the entrance exams," he said. An official from the university said that NTA is likely to conduct the entrance test on behalf of the university. Gupta said that the final decision will be made in the coming week. Apart from these, technical glitches in the test server are also the cause of the delay in the announcement of the admission process. Server is in the testing stage and is technical issues are arising because many new features have been added. The standing committee on admissions has also made the recommendation of adding various payment methods so that students can easily pay the fee for the entrance test and this feature is also being added. One of the suggestions is to establish tie-up with the e-wallet services as this will ease the payment process for the students. "Earlier, there was only one payment gateway which would lead to the server crashing but having multiple gateways will ease the process," said an official.

Delhi University admissions 2019: Officials confirmed the date and time

Delhi University admissions 2019: Officials confirmed the date and time

Refuting all the claims about when the admission process will begin at the Delhi University the official, Rajeev Gupta, Dean of Students Welfare, DU, said “May 27 is definitely not going to be admission day instead the process will begin later this week and the forms will be out at the beginning of June”. Like every year, students are waiting eagerly for the university to commence its admission process. Every year lakhs of students apply for the admission in the Delhi University. Last year, the university had begun its admission process on May 15, 2018. When asked about the delay in the admission process this year, Prof. Rajeev said “There are several reasons for the delay. But, the most prominent reason is last year's Delhi High Court direction to DU and CBSE”. Last year Delhi HC had instructed the DU to delay its admission process and asked the CBSE to advance its revaluation process to ensure convenience to all the students. "The registration process will remain open only for two weeks this time where students can fill all the details. Once the registration process is over. We'll be releasing the cut off list within a week's time," he added. Apart from the reservation on the grounds of caste and sports quota, the university has also added EWS category from this year as per the government directive. Every year millions of students register for the admission in the Delhi University. When asked Prof Rajeev about the number of seats he explained “For 2019- 20 academic year, we'll be including 1st phase of EWS addition. Last year, the total number of seats was 56,000. This time there will be as many as 6000 seats due to the inclusion of 10% reservation under EWS category, so nearly 62,000 seats will be available and reservation schemes will be at par with govt guidelines.”

Importance of Voting. Why every citizen should vote?

Importance of Voting. Why every citizen should vote?

The voting phase of the elections in India is over and soon the results will reveal the face of the new government of India. We all know that India is one of the largest democracies in the world but can we say that it also one of the strongest democracies in world? A democracy is when the people elect their representatives which work for their cause and represent them and help them solve their problems. But, it seems far from the truth. The recent controversy about GoI suppressing the unemployment data, Rafale controversy, terrorist attacks, using valor of the Indian army as a political tool...

Municipal corporation schools to face teachers shortage

Municipal corporation schools to face teachers shortage

Schools managed and run by South, North and East municipal corporations are staring at teachers crisis as their plans to hire new teachers for the students have hit a hurdle. According to the officials, they have found some discrepancies in the certificates of the some of the candidates which were selected under the OBC category. The term of the contractual teachers is also nearing the end this month. So, MCD schools when they reopen in July they might face a dire scarcity of the teachers in the schools. North body has 765 schools under it. The East and the South body have 365 and 851 schools under them respectively. These schools provide education until class 5th after which the students migrate to schools under the Delhi government. After a long gap of two years, the names of the 3788 teachers were cleared by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board. However, the board sounded an alert after it found that 77 candidates might have presented fake caste certificates of them belonging to the OBS category. A senior official of the South body said that the agency will verify the certificates physically and as a result the hiring process might get delayed by three to four month. “We are verifying how a candidate is claiming to be a Delhi resident if they have done Class XII from another state,” he said. Till the certificates are verified, it is possible that the South body will halt all the appointments of the teachers. South body education department director Shirish Sharma, said that schools will not be affected as there are no discrepancies in the appointment of the other candidates. “With permission from the highest authority, we can go ahead with other appointments… and hire contractual teachers, if required,” he said.

NTA to conduct DU entrance test for the year 2019

From quite some time, the Delhi University was planning to rope in National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct the entrance exam for the various courses of the University and the proposal has finally been approved by the admissions committee of the university. The director general, NTA, Vineet Joshi informed indianexpress.com, “we have already received the proposal and have given a nod now they (DU) have to decide the rules of conducting the exam and we will reach a conclusion thereafter.” Talking to indianexpress.com, Delhi University admissions chairperson, Rajeev Gupta said, “There is a proposal to ask NTA to conduct the DU entrance exams. The exam will only be for the courses for which entrance is already a mandate and no new courses are being brought under the ambit. The pattern and syllabus for the exam are also to remain the same.” The admissions to most of the courses offered by the DU are based on merit but for some courses there is an entrance exam. The university has been mulling over the idea of an online entrance test for quite some time but was delayed due to a rift between the university’s official over the idea of conducting the entrance test online. Hans Raj, professor, member of academic council and former member of admissions committee said, “The proposal to take entrance exam online has been there within the varsity since long but if this is accepted then it might prove to be unfavourable for students hailing from rural areas or with lesser privileged backgrounds as they are likely to face issues attempting exams online.” For now, the university has decided to give some additional benefits to the students who hail from the villages and have done their schooling from villages.DU conducts entrance exam for the following courses B.Com (honours)Journalism coursesBBABFAElementary education MusicHumanities and social sciencePhysical health education and sportsBTech in informatics and mathematics vocational
