UGC asked state governments to take appropriate action against the fake universities

The University Grants Commission has directed chief secretaries and other respected officers of the states to take appropriate actions against the fake universities that are still running their businesses. “UGC issues public notice against the unrecognized status of Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), New Delhi and illegal status of Bio-Chemic Education Grant Commission, Nadia, West Bengal. Bhartiya Shiksha Parishad, Lucknow, UP is also not recognized by the UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956,” Union HRD Minister of State Satya Pal Singh informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday, January 3. “No fake universities have been identified in the State of Rajasthan. Raja Arabic University, Nagpur has been identified as a fake university in the state of Maharashtra,” HRD Minister of State mentioned. The UGC has also sent notice to the three universities -- Indian Institute of Alternative Medicines & Natural Healing, Andheri(W), Mumbai, National Institute of Event Management, Andheri(W), Mumbai, Indian Board of Health Education & Research, Pune -- running in Maharashtra. A list containing names of the fake universities is also available on the official website -- ugc.ac.in. Parliament scraps ‘no detention policy’

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2019 which scraps the ‘no detention’ policy. ‘No detention’ policy is a policy under which students up to class 8 cannot be failed in exams and their promotion to the next class cannot be withheld up to class 8. The bill however, empower the states to decide whether they want to continue with or scrap the no detention policy. The Lok Sabha has already passed the bill. Replying to the debate on the bill, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar said that Education ministers from 25 states are in favor of scrapping the ‘no-detention’ policy while four states said that they would keep the policy intact. "The Bill is leaving it to the states to either end the no detention policy or keep it," Mr Javadekar said, as he underlined that "driving out" children from schools is not the objective of the bill. "It says there should be an examination. Competition is not a killer. When children play, they also participate in a competition of sorts. So, they should take school examinations in the same spirit," he said. Mr. Javadekar said that the apprehension that school dropout rate will increase has no justified grounds. "There are no dropouts up to Class 8 as there is no examination. But there is 20 per cent dropout rate at Class 9 and another 20 per cent at Class 10. But 'you have not learnt what you have studied' is no education," he said. He also clarified that there will be no board exams at class 5 and class 8 levels but ordinary exams conducted by the respective schools.

AIIMS 2019 | Last date of basic registration extended

The last date for the basic registration process for the AIIMS MBBS 2019 entrance exam has been extended until January 14, 2019. After the completion of the basic registration process, the registration will screen the applications and applicants who have filled their forms completely and correctly will be allowed to register further for the exam. AIIMS will release the candidature list on January 16 and candidates will be given time until January 22 to complete or correct their forms. Earlier, final registration was supposed to begin from January 29 but now will commence on February 21. The registration process for the same will continue until March 12, 2019. However, there is no change in the exam schedule and exam will be held on May 25 and 26. Admit cards for the same will be released on May 15. AIIMS will conduct the entrance exam for selecting candidates for MBBS courses in AIIMS New Delhi, Bathinda, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Deogarh, Gorakhpur, Jodhpur, Kalyani, Mangalagiri, Nagpur, Patna, Raipur, Rae Bareli, Rishikesh and Telangana.

GATE 2019 | Admit cards for the exam to be released today

"Candidates will be able to download GATE 2019 Admit Card from 4/1/2019 evening (around 4:00 pm)," reads the official update released this morning. Graduate Aptitude in Engineering ( GATE ) 2019 will be conducted by the IIT Madras in the month of February. The exam will commence on February 2, 2019 and will conclude on February 10, 2019. Last year, the exam was conducted by IIT Guwahati. Every year, more than 10 lakh candidates appear for the GATE exam which is a gateway to higher level engineering courses and jobs in PSU. The result of the same will be declared in March 2019. GATE scores are also used in Group A level recruitment in Central government. 'Some other Government of India Organizations have also expressed their interest to utilize GATE 2019 score for their recruitment purpose,' said an official statement. During the exam, the candidates are prohibited to carry personal calculators, wristwatches, mobile phones and other electronic devices. However, candidates are provided with a virtual scientific calculator on the computer screen. Candidates are also given scribble pad for the purpose of rough work. The exam is of 3-hour duration and comprises of 65 questions. Each question is either of 1 or 2 marks. The total marks for the exam are 100. For any wrong answered marked, candidates are given negative marks as a penalty.

50 percent of schooling hours should be spent in outside activities: Vice President

On Saturday, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that should spent 50 percent of their schooling hours in outside activities and parents and teachers should give equal importance to sports education as well. Mr. Naidu was addressing the students of Jubilee Hills Public School on the occasion of their annual day function and said, " Studies are important but equally important are sports, fine arts, dance, music, art and culture. In fact, I have been advocating that students should spend 50 per cent of their schooling hours outside classrooms and that sports education should be accorded greater importance by educationists and parents." The Vice President said that school curriculum should inculcate rational and independent thinking among the students. He also urged to revamp the school education system completely so that students enjoy going to school and become life long learners. "The education system needs to focus on making a child curious, creative, caring, communicative, confident and capable. It should prepare each child to be an active, caring citizen ready to participate in the world of today and capable of shaping the world of tomorrow. Such an environment will instill confidence in children, apart from inculcating a spirit of tolerance and accommodation in them," the Vice President said. Pointing out that education was the foundation for all efforts to improve the quality of our lives, Mr Naidu said, "Our life is multi-faceted and so must education be."

NDA 2019 notification to be released in January second week

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is expected to release the official notification for the NDA & NA exams in the second week of January and the exam is expected to held on April 21, 2019. Candidates who are interested in appearing for the exam can register for the exam by visiting the official website of the UPSC -- upsc.gov.in. The last to register for the exam is February 4, 2019. The exam is conducted for admissions in Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). Students who have passed 10+2 exams are eligible to appear for the exam and candidates who are appearing for the class 12th exam under the 10+2 pattern or equivalent are also eligible to appear for the exam. Candidates will have to appear for the written exam which is conducted by the UPSC. Candidates who will qualify the written exam will have to appear for the interview. The interview is conducted by the Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence. The final result of NDA & NA (I) 2018 exam was declared on November 27. A total of 379 have been declared qualified for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA for the 141th Course and Naval Academy for the 103rd INAC.

Time table for the fourth D.El.Ed. Exams released by the NIOS

The fourth edition of the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) exam will be held in February by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). The exams will be conducted for three subject modules: Learning in Art, Health, Physical and Work Education at Elementary Level (508), Learning Social Science at Upper Primary Level (509) and Learning Science at Upper Primary Level (510). The exams are scheduled on February 14 and 15 in the afternoon shift (2.30 pm to 5.30 pm) and the hall tickets for the same will be released one week before the exam. The D.El.Ed program was launched by the HRD Ministry in October 2017 to train the in-service untrained teachers working in primary and upper primary schools. All the teachers, who have enrolled for the program were given the deadline of March 2019 to complete the program and considering the objective of the NIOS-D.El.Ed program this might be the last exam. A special public exam will be held for the teachers who could not qualify the previous exams. The exam will be conducted in 5 subject modules and teachers can register for the exam till until January 10.
