Education ministry to decide the fate of pending CBSE Board exams in Foreign countries

Shifting its view point, CBSE is now mulling whether to conduct the pending board exam in foreign countries and is discussing the same with the ambassadors or foreign education ministers to reach a solution. The ministry is also working on modalities of assessment in places where situation does not allow to conduct the board exams. In a notification released on April 1, several measures regarding pending board exams were announced which included cancelling pending exams of class 12 students and conducting only important exams for class 12. "Considering the different situation at different places, having a common solution is not practically feasible. However, if the situation has improved in some countries, it would be better to conduct exams at least there. For example, we have a school in Japan, if the situation is better in that particular area, the exam can be conducted," a senior HRD Ministry official told PTI. The official also said that board is preparing for both possibilities. "That if exams can be conducted in some places, how will they be conducted and if not what will be the assessment pattern. We will soon have a final decision on all these aspects," the official added. The same information was also shared by the HRD Minister in online interaction with the students. "We are discussing with CBSE and trying to come up with a solution. We will also speak to Indian ambassadors in different countries and foreign education ministers. It is a difficult situation as the lockdown restrictions as well as COVID-19 situation is different in different countries and all of that needs to be given a thought. We will come up with a solution in best interest of students," Mr. Nishank had said.

Application process for AIAPGET 2020 begins

The online application process for the All India AYUSH Post Graduation Entrance Test (AIAPGET) 2020 exam has begun. The last date to apply online for the exam is June 5, 2020. The dates for the exam are yet to be announced by the agency. The exam is conducted to admit students to MD/MS/PG Diploma in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy Courses for academic Session 2020-2021. The cut-off date for the completion of internship which will determine the eligibility for appearing in AIAPGET-2020 shall be September 30, 2020. The entrance test will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT). The exam consists of only one paper which carries 480 marks. There are total 120 questions and duration of exam is 2 hours. The medium of question paper will be English and Hindi for Ayurveda, English and Urdu for Unani, English and Tamil for Siddha, and English only for Homeopathy.

COVIDGyan: An AICTE initiative to fight misinformation on Coronavirus

COVIDGyan is an AICTE initiative which will fight against the misinformation on COVID-19 and coronavirus. "The torrent of information generated and spread from all corners of the world on Covid-19 and coronavirus has created information overload. It is a challenge to comprehend reliable information while filtering out misinformation," says AICTE. COVIDGyan is the brainchild of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC). Other prominent partners include Vigyan Prasar, IndiaBioscience, and the Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSC, which comprises InStem and C-CAMP, in addition to NCBS-TIFR). Here, people will find scientifically credible and authentic content and the information provided will target both, general population and those interested in scientific research. Efforts are being made to make the resources available in as many Indian languages to make the reach of the initiative wider. Question bank for JEE, NEET and GUJCET released by Gujarat Board

Gujarat State Board has released the question bank for the students who are preparing for the exams such as JEE, NEET and GUJCET. The board has released the question bank for four subjects – Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Mathematics. Separate question bank for the English and Gujarati Medium students has been released and chapter-wise question papers are also available for the students. From the official website of the Gujarat Board, students can download the question bank. Gujarat board has also released provisional answer key for the class 12th science exam.

CBSE may reduce syllabus for the new academic session

Apart from announcing the new dates for the JEE Mains and NEET exams, Education Minister also announced that CBSE is working to reduce the syllabus for the new academic session. Due to the coronavirus outbreak and lockdown, the academic session is already delayed. Some schools are conducting online classes for the students but not all schools are able to replicate the process. Due to the loss of instructional time, parents and students were asking about the possibility of reducing the syllabus. The Education Minister, while addressing students during his webinar, said “CBSE will assess the loss of instructional time for the new academic session and will suggest a proportional reduction in curriculum load for exam.” “CBSE will assess the loss of instructional time for a proportionate reduction in curriculum load for Exams. In accordance, Course Committees of the Board has initiated work on the reduced syllabus in various scenarios.” tweeted Ministry of HRD (@HRDMinistry) The minister also said that the new dates for the pending board exams will be announced after the lockdown. He also said that class 10th exams will only be held for the students from North-East Delhi who could not appear for the exams.

Mizoram schools to charge 50 percent fee during the lockdown

An official on Tuesday said that private schools in Mizoram will only charge 50 percent fee from the students during the lockdown period. The decision was taken at a meeting which was attended by officials of the education department, students' bodies, Mizoram Independent School Association (MISA), and other stakeholders. The decision was taken after several appeals were raised by students’ bodies to not to charge fee during the lockdown period. It was also decided that schools which have charged the complete fee for April will not charge any fee in May. Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte, urged all school owners to understand the tight position of the students and parents due to the unprecedented crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak. MISA, an umbrella body earlier said that schools will charge full fee from the students as they have to pay their employees. However, the decision was highly opposed by Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) and Mizo Students Union (MSU) as this would place immense pressure on the students coming from EWS category.

CBSE launched free training for the teachers

CBSE has successfully conducted the technology enabled pilot teacher training program. The program was held from third week of May. After its success, the CBSE has decided to launch Online Teacher Training program through its Center of Excellence (CoE). In the pilot program, CBSE conducted 500 free online training sessions in which more than 35,000 teachers and principals participated. Now, after the success of the pilot program the board is launching structured online teacher training program which will enable teachers to teach better using the digital technology. Through training sessions, teachers will be able to upskill themselves with the latest developments in teaching methodology and will be able to revise and refresh what they already know. Each training session will be of one-hour duration and e-certificates will be issued to each participant. CBSE, on its official website, has shared the schedule for the month of May 2020along with participation guideline. For this month, CoEs have planned over 1200 online sessions.
