Servers at the Delhi University are undergoing severe stress as anxious students are generating multiple applications in order to a secure seat in the university after the announcements of first cut-offs. Aspirants can only study for one course but this is not stopping them from generating multiple applications, which is the main cause of the load on the servers in the university. After the release of the first cut-off list on June 19, students frantically started applying for the courses. “Even though students are aware that once the server is active, it will be in service 24×7, they feel that it is a case of first come, first served basis. With so many students logging in at the same time, the server is bound to be under pressure,” said the official. The real problem is that candidates generate applications in excessive numbers despite aware of the fact that they can take admission in one course only, the official added. The official also told “According to admission rules, applicants need to study the cut-off list,select courses and colleges on the university website, take the printout ofthe admission slip and finally approach respective colleges with the slipand required documents. However, candidates, who are probably undecided or unsure, generate more than one admission slip, thereby putting severe pressure on the server”. According to the data shared by Dr. Sanjeev Singh, joint director, Delhi University Computer Center: 28,690 students generated 209607 applicationsMore than 4000 candidates generated more than 10 applicationsOne student generated 333 applications, despite her not being eligible for the admission after the first cut-offAnother student generated 292 applications A team of six students of MSc (Informatics) is working with Mr. Singh to keep the servers up all the time. “We are working 24×7 during the admission season. The lab where we are working is like a war room during this time,” he added.
