AMU’s name recommended for the 'Institution Of Eminence' Status



Empowered Expert Committee has recommended the name of the Aligarh Muslim University for the 'Institution Of Eminence' Status and vice-chancellor of the University, Prof Tariq Mansoor has expressed his gratitude the recommendation. The government has already given the tag of 'Institution Of Eminence' to 6 public and private universities. A statement from the university said “other public institutions finding a place in the recommendation include Banaras Hindu University, Tezpur University, Savithribai Phule Pune University, University of Hyderabad, Panjab University and Andhra University”. If the university is granted the tag then it will receive INR 1000 crores for the next five years and will be given greater autonomy than its counterpart universities. In the first list, the panel has recommended the names of the eight public sector universities of which three universities succeeded in getting the status of IoEs. Prof Mansoor said “ if Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is granted the status of Institution of Eminence, it will widen the research arena in the varsity and provide the faculty members with better opportunities to carry out innovative researches in respective fields.” He also urged the faculty members of the university to prepare innovative research proposals and help the university attain greater heights. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had granted the IoE Status to Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), IIT Delhi and IISc Bangalore along with Jio Institute (Reliance Foundation), Pune, Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences (BITS) Pilani, Rajasthan; and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka.
