CBSE: Removal of disparity in marks is under consideration with the states

In an attempt to level the marks awarded to the examinee by CBSE board and other state board, the Center has asked the CBSE to discuss the same with other state boards, said Union minister Satya Pal Singh. Speaking on the issue, he cited an example saying that when the students from the CBSE board and other state boards present their mark-sheets for admission in various UG courses there marks varies from 98 percent to 85 percent. In such case, universities are forced to compare the papers of different boards and arrive at a formula for admission purposes, he said. "We have already sent an instruction to the CBSE to discuss with other state boards on the issue," the union minister of state for human resources development said. The CBSE board is now in the process of discussing the same with its counterparts. On the center’s move to introduce the no homework policy to the students of class 1 and 2, Singh said “The parents also want the same. Providing quality education to children remained the priority of the government”. He further said “As part of the Center’s decision to remove social-regional imbalances, the center will fund setting up of a central institute in states. Priority would be given to states with no such facility. The state concerned will provide land and the Centre will provide the funds.” Talking about the issue of restructuring the syllabus for education by 2035, the minister said that the syllabus in universities such as Harvard/ MIT is created by keeping in minds the development in the next 20 years.
