Haryana schools to spread drug awareness among the school children

The Haryana government with the help of Higher Education Department in the state will soon launch a special campaign to make students of all government and private colleges and universities aware of the harmful effects of the drug abuse. The Education Minister of Haryana, Ram Bilas Sharma, mentioned the drug awareness program yesterday and said that the state government is already spreading awareness about the same among the youth. As reported by the PTI, the minister said “there are laws to put a check on drug addiction and its abuse, it can be completely eliminated with good moral values and awareness among youth.” The education minister also said that teachers play an important role in the lives of the students and therefore they should make the students aware about the ill-effects of taking the drugs. The action plan for the same has been sent to the Registrars of universities and Principals of all government colleges, aided colleges, and self-financing colleges. The government has also asked the institutions to hold various activities such as rallies, street plays, slogan writing, essay writing, poster making events to spread awareness about the ill-effects of the drugs. The education minister also mentioned that the state police is taking strict measures against the people who are indulged in drug trafficking.

Scholarship For Students With Disabilities announced by the Jammu and Kashmir

On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik announced a scholarship scheme for the students with disabilities. This was done in the honor of International Day of Disabled Persons. An official spokesperson of the government said “under the 'J&K Government Scholarship Scheme for Differently Abled Students', financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh each would be awarded annually to a meritorious specially abled boy and girl student”. The main aim of the scheme is to develop suitable infrastructure, institutions and facilities for the differently abled persons so that they can adjust in the society, the official further added. "We need to provide the best possible facilities for the holistic development of persons with special needs," Mr Malik said as he announced the scheme at a function organized by the department of education. Lauding the performances presented by the differently abled students, the Governor announced a cash reward for the performers and anchors of the program. A special five-day orientation program for the children with special needs in Bangalore and Karnataka and a visit to the Mansar lake for the participants of the function was also announced by the Minister after the function. Mr. Malik also appreciated the school education department for organizing the event and availing the transport facilities for the children. He also stressed the need of donating liberally for the differently abled students so that they can hone their talents.

Odisha government and ADB enters an agreement to strengthen skill development in the state

On Monday, the Odisha government signed a loan agreement of 85 million dollars with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The loan amount will be used by the state government to train 1.5 lakh youth of the state, said an official. An official from the state government said “with this assistance, youths in the age group of 15-34 years will be given skill development training to make them competent to get better work and higher paying jobs”. The project is named as Odisha Skill Development Authority and ITE Education Services. The total cost of the project is 193 million dollars and the Odisha government will contribute 108 million dollars, the statement further added. Japan government will also provide the technical aid from its Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction and ADB will provide 2 million dollars for capacity building component of the project. Apart from ADB and Japan, Singapore will also aid Odisha in the project. Establishment of the World Skills Centre (WSC) in Bhubaneswar will be done with the aid of Singapore. A speciality of WSCs is that all the training programs have been designed to cater to the needs of the industry and training is provided through experiential learning. The main aim of the project is to reduce the unemployment and under-employment rates in Odisha by 2025.

IITs are facing the shortage of faculty; 36 percent of posts are lying vacant

According to the reports, collectively all IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai, Roorkee and Varanasi) of the nation are dealing with the shortage of faculty at their campuses. At present, there are 65,824 students in all IITs combined but there are only 4,049 teachers against 6,318 approved posts. The information was given by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry in response to a query by Neemuch-based RTI activist Chandrashekhar Gaud. It is worrisome that these eight major and among the oldest IITs are still facing teacher shortages. If these institutions are facing this situation, one can guess what would be the situation at newer IITs”. IIT BHU is the worst hit among all According to the reports from the PTI, IIT BHU is facing the worst shortfall of the teachers. The institute currently has only 265 faculty members against the 548 approved posts, which means that 52 percent posts are vacant.

Exam leak: Gujarat Police Constable exam canceled due to question paper leak

On Sunday, the written exam for the recruitment of Gujarat Police Constables was scheduled but it was canceled few hours before the exam as exam authorities came to know that the question paper for the exam has been leaked. More than 8 lakh candidates were expected to appear for the exam. The exam was supposed to start at 3 pm at 2,440 centers all over Gujarat. “The written exam was canceled hours before the test was scheduled to start after it came to light that the question paper was leaked,” said Vikas Sahay, chairman of the Lokrakshak Recruitment Board, the body that conducts the examination. "Somebody sent me a list of answers, and they were answers to the questions set for the examination. We called off the examination as it was clear that the paper had been leaked," Sahay said, adding that a police probe would be instituted into the issue. "So far, we have no information as to where the paper got leaked from. We had set up strong rooms with CCTV cameras and security guards in every district to store the papers," added Sahay. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has already directed the state Home Department to take immediate actions and the opposition party has demanded setting up of a SIT under a sitting high court judge and has alleged that the people of the ruling party are behind the incident. "The BJP government is playing with the future of Gujarat's youth. This government has no right to stay in power if it cannot even conduct an examination without engaging in corruption," Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said. The candidates who had travelled for the exam from other states were left dejected as they came to know about the cancellation of the exam. Angry students blocked the roads and burnt tyres as a demonstration of their protest.

Timetable for AP SSC 2019 exams released; Check below

The class 10 exams for the academic session 2018-19 of the Board of Secondary Education of Andhra Pradesh will commence from March 18, 2019 and will continue until April 2, 2019. On Monday, the timetable for the exams was released by the Andhra Pradesh State Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao. According to the official data, more than 6 lakh students will appear for the class 10 exams. After releasing the timetable for the exams, HRD minister said that results for the exams will be announced within one month of completion of exams. The principals of various schools have been asked to apply for the exams and they can do so by visiting the official portal of School Education Board. Speaking about the exam, the minister said that the exams will be held in 2,835 exam centers and CCTV cameras will be installed in 91 centers, which are deemed as the most problematic centers. The board has also arranged 150 flying squads for the inspection purpose. He further told that all the regular restrictions will be in place near the exam centers including the implementation of section 144 under which all the xerox shops and internet cafes will remain closed. Government to reimburse the expenditure on books and uniforms of children with disabilities

The HRD Ministry has told all the schools of the nation that the expenditure incurred on books, uniforms and transport of children with disabilities will be reimbursed. Speaking at an award ceremony organized by the National Center for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, Mr. Singh said that there are about 12 million disabled people in the nation and only one percent go to schools. "Specially challenged people just do not need courtesy and compassion, but real empowerment which would come through education. How to ensure it is a big challenge," he said at the Helen Keller Awards 2018. Mr.Singh said “the directions have been issued to all the schools in the country that all the expenditure incurred on books, uniform and transportwill be reimbursed by the government". He also said that girl child will be given INR 200 per month. He further added that the government has issued directions that from this academic session there will be minimum 5 percent admission in all the educational bodies. "It is one of the topmost priority for this government to make sure that the rights of specially challenged people are ensured," he said.
