Curriculum fee in the private health sciences universities to be regulated by the Punjab Government



On Thursday, a Punjab Government cabinet decided to regulate the fee of the private health sciences universities so that students don’t end up paying an exorbitant fee.The cabinet was led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh which gave the approval to amend the Punjab Private Health Sciences Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission, Fixation of Fee and Making of Reservation) Act, 2006, by promulgating an Ordinance.The 2006 Act was amended to bring private health universities under its purview. With the approval of the amendment, the fee fixed by the state government will also be applicable to the private universities.“The decision was taken in pursuance of the recommendations of a cabinet sub-committee constituted in June this year,” said an official statement from the Punjab Government.The act stipulates that the government can prescribe a fee structure for private medical institutions that provide health science courses and can distribute the seats between management and government quota.According to the Act, the fee for medical colleges and other health institutions is fixed by the state government from time to time.
