IIT-Bombay student protested against the hostel rules

IIT-Bombay student protested against the hostel rules

About 100 students of IIT-Bombay staged a protest against hostel rules under the banner 'IIT-Bombay for Justice'. The new hostel rules were sent to the students on January 29. Students protest with a piece of cloth tied on their mouths -- a symbolic representation that the hostel and college administration is against their freedom of speech. The 'new hostel' rules sent by the dean of students' affairs had asked that students not to take part in anti-social, anti-national and undesirable activities. In their letter to the authorities, students have asked to revoke these rules. The students submit a letter in which they have mentioned various court rulings that give citizens the right to protest. All the students gathered in front of the School of Management and walked peacefully by sticking clothes in their mouths and placards in their hands to the director's office and handed the letter to the director. Security personnel stopped the students from entering the main building and students then sat down in from of the building. In their letter, the students said, "This authoritarian mindset by the administration to control student activities goes against the ideals of equality, liberty and justice that all progressive spaces like a premier institute of eminence must uphold."
