#MeToo movement now grips the Delhi’s National Law University

#MeToo movement is gaining momentum and support from the nation encouraging the females of the society to come forward and speak about sexual harassment. The increased momentum of the movement has now taken the National Law University Delhi (NLUD) in its grips after several female students penned their accounts on the Facebook. The officials of the university said that the appropriate measures have been taken. Last week, several female students of the university came forward on the Facebook about the male students harassing them. After the allegations surfaced, NLUD V-C Ranbir Singh sent an e-mail to all the students and faculty saying “I have been made aware of the emerging accounts of sexual harassment… (It) violates the most fundamental and cherished values that the University stands for… I am, therefore, deeply concerned by these accounts and am taking… measures as preliminary steps in responding institutionally to the issues that have arisen.” NLUD Registrar G S Bajpai said that the university has set up a nine-member internal complaints committee (ICC) that will assist in the implementation of UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations 2015. NLUD has also constituted a committee of faculty members which will recommend the measures to address the issues of sexual harassment on the campus. “The university is also contemplatingappointing mental health professionals with expertise in providingcounseling services to survivors of sexual violence,” added Bajpai.
