Vice President urged to make rural services mandatory for the young doctors

M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India, said that the doctors in India must be trained to be more sensitive toward the needs and sufferings of the patients. He also said that serving two-three years in the rural areas must be made mandatory for the young doctors before considering them for the promotions. He was present at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in Bhubaneswar, Odisha for addressing the institute’s first convocation. He also asked the young doctors to be abreast with the modern methods and latest trends in the respective fields of specialization. He also said that medical curriculum needs to be updated more frequently by adding the latest developments and methods of treatments. While speaking he also brought the fact that how the shortage of physicians, nurses and other health professionals in the nation is affecting the overall health status of the nation and that there is a need to increase the medical colleges and services to every part of the nation. “The government is doing its best in this regard, the corporate sector and NGOs must come forward to supplement the efforts of the government,” he added. He also said that shortage of medical professionals also forces the people to go to quack doctors for the treatments and this puts their life in the danger. Highlighting the need of good and strong healthcare system, the Vice President said “there is a need to increase the number of doctors available at health care centers residing in rural areas.”
