Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, said that three lakh college students (first-year) in Gujarat will get tablet computers for a token money of INR 1000. The original price of each tablet is INR 11,000. This is the second consecutive year that the students in Gujarat college will receive such tablets at such nominal price. Mr. Rupani further told that the government will collect INR 30 crores from the students and the money will be used provide tablets to the students and internet and Wi-Fi connectivity to the college campuses which will benefit the students during their studies. The tablets will be distributed among the students of Gujarat University and Gujarat Technological University students. "Three lakh first-year college students will get tablets for a token sum of Rs. 1,000. The distribution programme is being held in college campuses across the state.The objective is that in this age of technology, students will be able to enhance their knowledge and connect to the world using tablets with internet connectivity," Mr. Rupani said. Anju Sharma, Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, told that the tablets will come pre-loaded with the 450 video lectures, 46 course material videos and 110 virtual learning course material as per the syllabus. He further said that this year the tablets are of better quality and have higher hardware specification than their counterpart last year.
