DUTA to continue its protest

On Thursday, the Delhi University Teachers’ Association’s (DUTA) decided to continue the ongoing strike demanding the absorption of the ad-hoc teachers into permanent posts of the university. However, the HRD ministry has offered several concessions to the DUTA but they were rejected by the DUTA.Earlier, the HRD ministry said that the ad-hoc teachers will be allowed to work in DU until permanent faculties are appointed. The ministry also tweaked the appointment criteria in favor of ad-hoc teachers and said that their teaching experience will be counted.DUTA, however, said that HRD ministry and UGC have not considered their original demand which is one-time absorption of the ad-hoc teachers into permanent teaching posts.… the DUTA General Body Meeting decides to carry forward the movement till our legitimate demand for the absorption of all existing ad hoc and temporary teachers based on 200-point DOPT (Department of Personnel and Training) roster through a one-time regulation. Further, the DUTA demands that the second tranche of positions of the much delayed OBC expansion and EWS (economically weaker sections) expansion be immediately utilized and added to the teaching roster…” read the resolution passed in the general body meeting. As a result, university teachers will continue their strike and will boycott the exam invigilation and evaluation duties for the ongoing end of semester examinations.
