President calls for the need of cross-collaboration in higher education



On December 14, 46 Heads of the Central Universities and Institutes of Higher Learning were hosted at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Before dinner, various issues which are plaguing the Indian education such as research collaboration, filling up vacancies, and alumni endowment were discussed.Concluding the presentation session, President Ram Nath Kovind said “India has set itself for sustainable development as it strives to eliminate poverty and become a middle-income country. Each of these institutes will be instrumental to the realization of our socio-economic goals.”He said that Central Agricultural Universities are capable of promoting and supporting the national goal of sustainable agriculture, productivity and supporting the farmers of the nation with useful research. The same is true for the other prestigious institutes in other domains such as pharmaceutical, aviation, oceanography, petroleum and energy, IT, Design, Architecture and others.President said that these institutes should lead the research field and provide the nation with skilled talent which can spur the innovation in various fields."While developing your specializations, I would urge you to collaborate and learn from each other. This is possible for institutes in the same field. It is also possible across categories. For example, advances in Information Technology can aid Architects and town planners to design Smart Cities that minimize the use of energy," he said.He also urged the current leaders of the institutions to act as mentors for the next generation leaders.
