Joyful Saturday | Rajasthan government’s scheme to keep students bag free



The Rajasthan government has introduced ‘Joyful Saturday’ initiative under which recreational activities will be held in the schools on every second and fourth Saturday of each month and students will not be required to bring their bags to the schools. The initiative has been named as ‘Joyful Saturday’. Activities to improve the communication skills, creativity, critical and logical thinking would be held for the students from classes 1 to 12. A circular was also issued by the Rajasthan School Education Council regarding the same in which to all the district education officers and district coordinators of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. The letter informed the concerned authorities about the ‘Joyful Saturday program. In the program, activities such as debate, poetry recitation, storytelling, puzzle solving, display of scientific magic tricks, toy making, arts and crafts, communicating with police, doctors, nurses, bank staffers, plantation works, road safety, child rightsʼ club activities, display of motivational videos, gender-based videos (good touch, bad touch), games, etc. will be conducted. A provision of 1000 has also been made by the government for each school in order to purchase the items needed to organize the activities. Sandeep Joshi, lecturer of a government senior secondary school, Revat in Jalore district, said “we werealready doing activities like classroom debate, speech and physicalactivities, but we will get more time now because the government hasissued orders. Students are excited about ‘Joyful Saturdayʼ which willstart very soon”.
