National Teachers Award to be given on Teachers day on September 5

The Ministry of Human Resource Development said on Monday that National Teachers Awards will be given on the occasion of Teachers day and like the last year these awards will be presented by the Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi will interact with the recipients of the awards at his residence. Teachers from the state and central government schools and those which are affiliated with the CBSE and CISCE are eligible for the award. This year, the government has also introduced some changes in the eligibility criteria including the other rules such as making the entire process online and allowing the teachers to self-nominate and directly apply for the award. By removing the minimum age criterion, the government has made the competition open to the young teachers. In order to restore the prestige of the awards, the government has reduced to the number of awards from 300 to 45. The Ministry in a statement said “6,692 teachers have applied for the award, of whom 152 were nominated for the award by states, Union Territories and other organizations. These nominated teachers gave a presentation before an independent jury comprising a senior educationist, during third week of August”.
