New IIMs to get their permanent campuses by 2021

On Wednesday, the Union Government cleared the proposal for the establishment of permanent campuses of seven new IIMs by 2021. The total estimated cost of building these new campuses will be INR 3775.42 crore. These IIMs were established between 2015-16 and 2016-17. At present they are functioning from their non-permanent campuses. “The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the establishment of a permanent campus of seven new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs),” said a government statement. The institutes are in Amritsar, Bodh Gaya, Nagpur, Sambalpur, Sirmaur, Vishakhapatnam and Jammu. Each of these institutes will be constructed on 60,384 sq. Meter area with the complete infrastructural facilities for the students. Recurring grants have also been approved for these institutes which will be INR 5 lakh per student per year for the five years. After this, the institutes are expected to meet their running cost from the internal funds generation. The construction of the new campuses is expected to complete by 2021 and with this all the 20 IIMs will have their own campuses.
