Admissions under EWS category in Delhi private schools increased 3 fold: Manish Sisodia



According to the Delhi government’s Outcome Budget the seat allocation for the EWS category students in Delhi’s private school have been 76 percent which is almost three times more than the schools under three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCD). Total admissions under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and disadvantaged group (DG) category in the private schools in Delhi stand at 32,455 which is three times more than the admissions under the three municipal bodies. "The number of admissions in private schools as per Section 12 of the Right to Education (RTE) Act has witnessed 240 per cent increase since 2015-16," said Sisodia. "32,455 EWS/DG category students have been admitted to private unaided schools through online lottery under the RTE Act against 25,178 during 2017-18 and around 20,000 in 2016-17," he added. He further said that against the target of adding nursery classes in 305 schools in 2018-19 until December, the government successfully introduced the same in 301 schools and 95 percent of the total seats were filled. "The campaign 'Mission Buniyad' was attended by 3.30 lakh students during summer vacations and it helped improve the percentage of students who could read textbooks from 48 percent to 66 percent, and students who could solve a grade level mathematics problem from 54 percent to 73 percent," he said.
