Delhi University to implement EWS quota; Seats to be increased from the new academic year



“The Delhi University (DU) will effect a 10 percent increase in seats for economically weaker sections from the coming academic session” official from the DU said who had the knowledge of the matter. HRD ministry said that the university will implement the newly reserved 10 percent quota for the EWS category from the 2019 academic session. In order to implement the 10% EWS quota, the HED Ministry has instructed all the institution to increase their seats by 25 percent. On Wednesday, the admission committee of the DU decided to implement the 25% increase in two phases. In phase one, it will increase the seats by 10% this year and in phase two it will increase the seats by 15% at the start of the next academic year. The University will appoint a committee which will work out the modalities as to how the seats will be increased. As of now, there won’t be any infrastructural changes in the university and the extra 10% students will be accommodated in the existing classrooms, an official said.
