ICAI to train one lakh student in GST Accountancy

ICAI to train one lakh student in GST Accountancy

The Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI) is all set to launch Goods and Services Tax (GST) Accountants course and will train around one lakh students in coming one-and-a-half year, said ICAI president Amit Anand Apte. According to the reports, the fees of training the students will be fully funded by the Government of India. The main objective of the program is to increase the GST compliance in the SME sector as there is a shortage of trained resources and requirements. "GST Accountants programme will be launched very soon. About 1 lakh accountants will be trained specifically on GST compliances. We are working out the modalities with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the course would be tentatively launched by February end," Apte said. One of the major challenges before the GoI is that SMEs are not fully able to comply with the GST law because of the lack of trained accountants in the sector who can adhere to the GST provisions. Once these accountants are trained, the GST compliance in the SME sector will improve drastically. About the course The students will be given 50 hours of classroom trainingThe course content will also have 10hours of live practical training where students will be trained in the computerized filing of the returns in various GST officesThe course would be conducted through ICAI's 98 chapters and about 300 extension centres across the country.
