CBSE to assess class 10th students in English and Maths through internal exams

CBSE to assess class 10th students in English and Maths through internal exams

From 2020 onwards, CBSE will conduct class 10th English and Maths exams at school levels. A total of 20 marks will be assigned for the school-based assessment for each exam. In order to be considered for the board exam, students will first require to clear the school-based internal assessment of English and Math exams. The system was already in place for the class 12 students for some subjects and now the same has been extended to class 10th students as well. CBSE called the move learner-centric and said that the need for the internal assessment is increasing. Once the rule is in place the marks of the main theory exams will be reduced to 80 for each subject. The board has already communicated the changes to the affiliated schools via official notice. From 2020, students of class 10 will also have an option to choose the difficulty level of their math exam. Those who will opt for the easier version will not be allowed to take the Math as a major subject in higher studies. “Students are habitual of writing answers as written in the textbooks. It is important that they develop their own style of writing and not mere reproduce what the books say. Thus, we have issued instructions to give consideration to students who adopt their own writing style,” said CBSE spokesperson. The current format will discourage the students to mug up books and write answer creatively, he further added.
