Now skill Development courses in the Government colleges of Punjab

The Punjab government is planning to provide students with the skill development courses in all the state-run institutions and polytechnic colleges. This effort from the government is a part of a campaign under which government is trying to provide employment to every household. The new initiative will be a huge boost for the government’s ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar' campaign and will offer the courses varying from 3 to 6 months in duration under the Punjab Skill Development Mission, Channi, the Technical Education and Industrial Training and Employment Generation minister said. "Dropouts or semi-literates will also be able to take admission in these skill development courses and attain free training," he said. The cost of training is INR 10,000 to 15,000 per student but the cost will be borne by the government. Initially, these courses will be introduced in the 22 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) and 10 polytechnics and later the scheme will be expanded to add more such colleges and institutions. The institution heads will be required to submit a report on the subjects they wish to introduce. Channi has also instructed all the heads of the colleges to talk with the industries in their areas and ask about the skills they look in an employee once they have passed the college. “The institutes exhibiting credible performances would get special incentive besides being honored,” Channi said.
