Two new government medical colleges for Telangana



Telangana will soon witness the establishment of two new government medical colleges as same has been approved by the chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. According to the press release issued by the CM’s office the colleges will be established in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts. "To this effect, honorable chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao signed on the concerned file in response to proposals from medical and health department. 150 seats are allotted in each of those colleges. In addition, 150 admissions are going on in Siddipet medical college which has already been sanctioned," read the release. One of the officials from the government said that government will sanction INR 500 cr for each college. "Of Rs 500 crore, Rs 450 crore is meant for capital expenditure and the rest of the amount is for human resources," said K Srinivas Rao, OSD to the health minister. Along with the new buildings for the colleges, the government will also upgrade the buildings for the existing hospitals in both the districts. "The number of beds in the existing hospitals will be increased. Apart from this, administrative block, classrooms and laboratories will be developed as part of the college," said Rao. The government said that it will take one or two years for the colleges to be fully operational. "The decision will benefit meritorious students who want to seek admission in government medical colleges. Before Telangana formation, there were only four medical colleges. With two medical colleges, students will have more options," G Srinivas, advisor of Telangana Junior Doctors Association.
