To promote the education, Bihar government is giving INR 10,000 to each girl students

The Bihar government is preparing to give one-time monetary awards to the girl students who are unmarried and have successfully cleared the intermediate exams. The beneficiaries of the scheme will receive INR 10,000 as an award from the state government and the amount will be transferred directly to their accounts. The award will be presented by the Nitish Kumar under the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana’ (MKUY), which was launched by the government in April 2018. “Directions has been given by the education department to all districts to shortlist beneficiaries who cleared the state’s Plus-Two exam, the results of which were declared on June 6, for the state government award,” Principal Secretary, Education, R K Mahajan, told PTI. He further said that the money will be transferred to the respective accounts by the month of July. “The scheme, run by the education department, aims to promote education among girls, besides fighting social evils like child marriage, which, in turn, would lower fertility rate and control population. Only unmarried girls who cleared the Plus-Two exam are eligible for the benefit,” the principal secretary stated. Approved by the cabinet on April 19, 2018, the MKYU scheme offers various incentives to the girls right from their birth till they complete their graduation. If a girl completes her graduation then she is entitled to INR 25,000 from the state government irrespective of her marital status. “The program aims to take care of a girl, irrespective of her caste or religion, by providing a total sum of Rs 54,100 at different stages,” Mahajan said and added that the government has set aside a sum of INR 1400 crores for the scheme.
