DU Admissions: Seats vacant in the EWS quota due to high cutoffs

DU Admissions: Seats vacant in the EWS quota due to high cutoffs

According to the reports, only 27 percent of the seats are filled under the newly introduced EWS quota for the students in the Delhi University. The main reason behind this is the unexpected higher cutoffs for various courses. When the reservation for the EWS category students (from the General category) was announced many students rejoiced but according to the data available on the DU’s website only 27 percent seats have been filled due to high cutoffs for the category. A total of only 1527 students have been admitted in the university under the EWS category though the university has 5600 seats. Students and professors both blame the high cut-offs decided by the university for the students from the EWS category. Under the third cut-off list of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) the cut-off marks for admissions in BA Economic (Hons) for the EWS category students were 97.25 percent. In Ramjas college, the cut-off marks for admissions in Economics (Hon) for the EWS category students was 97 percent and for the students from the general category was 97.5. “In the initial cut-offs, the admissions were very slow under the EWS category. The students have complained about the high cut-offs," a senior faculty who manages admissions said. The officials added that the trend might change in the later cut-off lists when colleges will face empty seats.
