Government has reserved 4800 seats in the MBBS for the EWS students: Union Minister Harsh Vardhan
On Friday, Union Minister Harsh Vardhan said that the government has reserved around 4800 seats for the students belonging to the EWS category. He also informed the Lok Sabha that medical seats for the Under Graduate and Post Graduate course have been increased by 24,698 in more than two years. From 2017-18 the UG seats have been increased by 15,815 and PG seats have been increased by 2,153. In 2019-20 the UG seats have been increased by 10,565 and PG seats have been increased by 2,153. During the question hour, the minister said that there are around 75000 MBBS seats for the students who qualify the NEET exam. "The government has taken several steps to increase the number of seats in various medical educational institutes/medical colleges across the country," he said. The minister also said that now it is mandatory for all the medical colleges to start PG courses within three years from the date of the UG (MBBS) course recognition. He also told that new colleges re being established by upgrading district/referral hospitals preferably in under-served districts.
