Industry-ready graduates are the need of the hour

Industry-ready graduates are the need of the hour

On Wednesday, experts, in Bhubaneshwar, put emphasis on making the students industry-ready as soon as they complete their education from college or University. They said this as they discussed the draft of the National Education Policy at a state-level meeting. Arun Kumar Sahoo, the Higher education minister said that center must increase the allocation for the school and higher education. He stressed that a mere three percent will not solve the problems of education. “Odisha has tribals, more than 22 per cent of the state’s population. We should keep their interest in mind while preparing the policy. Equity in education should be a major focus. Besides, the Centre should keep the need of the state while preparing the policy,” said Sahoo in the meeting. Vice-chairman of Odisha State Higher Education Council, Asoka Kumar Das, said that policy should be prepared in such a way that it is able to bring the excellence in the field of education and it should also focus on making the students industry-ready. “The policy is a good one. But we will give our necessary comments. Industries should spend their corporate social responsibility fund for the training and research of the state students,” he added. Siba Prasad Adhikary, an educationist and former vice-chancellor of FM University, said that problems such as teacher vacancy has long plagued our education system and must be solved to improve the outcome of the sector. Basudev Bhatta, chairman of Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha, stressed on increasing the allocations for the education sector. CSR funds must be utilized in education. “After completion of study from colleges and universities, there should be a database of all students to follow up their employment status later,” he added.
