Admission date deadline extended for the J&K students selected for the PM Scholarship
Providing relief to the students from J&K selected for the PM scholarship scheme, the SC on Friday extended the deadline for taking admissions into engineering colleges by a month due to state’s abrogation from its special status.The J&K government has said that the counseling by the AICTE was completed on July 30 but the students selected for the Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) were unable to take admission into the colleges due to restrictions imposed on the state after its merger with India.A bench of Justices U U Lalit and R Subhash Reddy agreed and extended the deadline for the admissions until September 15. "Due to recent developments and the peculiar situation in Jammu and Kashmir, a request is made that the last date shall be extended till September 15. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has no objection to the prayer made. We allow the application and the last date for selected PMSSS students stand extended till September 15, 2019," the bench said. Shoeb Alam, the standing counsel of J&K had said that around 2401 students selected for the PMSSS were unable to take admissions into various engineering colleges due to the prevailing conditions in the state. He also said that 3672 students have already availed the benefits of the PMSSS.He further added, although 3672 students have already taken admissions into various engineering college they may not be able to report to their respective colleges on time due to the circumstance hence, relief needs to be granted to them also. The Supreme court agreed with the situation and extended the last date of joining until September 15, 2019.8.17
