FTII launched a course to teach film making to the Autistic adults
FTII has devised a course which will teach film making to the Autistic adults. It all started as a conversation with a mother of an autistic girl with fine photography skills and now the institute has decided to launch a film making course for the Autistic adults. Shalini Gupta, who runs an NGO named Art Sanctuary and has approached the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, to learn about the film making program for her daughter with special needs. After analyzing the course structure and learning outcomes, the institute designed a 10-day long film making on smartphone course for the autistic adults. The course will have an intake of 10 participants and they will be introduced to the complete filmmaking experience including ideation, scripting, shooting and editing. The course is split into two modules and each module is of five-day duration. The first phase of the course has ended on June 31 and the second phase will commence from August 16. The participants will shoot and edit their videos which will be screened at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi, on August 20. "This filmmaking course is a small beginning to offer film education to all. The course has been applauded by parents and we have also got requests from across India to offer it. The parents of adults with Down Syndrome are also approaching us for design courses," says Bhupendra Kainthola, director, FTII. He adds, "Since participants with special needs are not comfortable without their family members around, parents have been made an integral part of the course."
