NEET Mop-up counseling round in trouble; Protests for over 700 vacant seats in Rajasthan

NEET counseling in Rajasthan is under fire from the candidates who are participating in the process. Reportedly, more than 705 seats have gone vacant even after two rounds of counseling. Parents and students are saying that due to the carelessness of the authorities students with lower ranks have been assigned better seats. This is the first time that even after two rounds of counseling such a large number of seats are still vacant. The vacant seats include government seats, management seats and seats reserved for NRI candidates. Apart from this, 885 BDS seats are also vacant. Students and parents are saying that seats allotted to the students in first round were blocked even if the students took admission outside the state. Counseling authorities delayed the second counseling to map the seats but seats were not freed and are being offered in the mop-up round only. Students took to Twitter and urged the government to cancel the mop-up round. “Sir gross irregularities are being done in ongoing NEET counseling. Plz help meritorious students of Rajasthan,” tweeted Dr.Raj Shekhar Yadav The counseling process for the state quota seats is being conducted by the NEET UG Medical and Dental Admission/Counselling Board-2019, Jaipur. The standard procedure is to conduct two rounds of counseling before conducting mop-up round. Seats that remain vacant in the first round are offered in the second round and seats that remain vacant after second round are offered in mop-up round. The NEET Chairman, Dr, Sudhir Bhandari, said “the due process was followed and any complaint received are being sent to higher authorities”.
