DU sets up special control room before Holi celebrations

As the festival of colors approaches, Delhi University is taking special measures to address any complaints of the students. For this purpose, the university has set up a special and dedicated control room in north and south campus and has urged the students to not to play Holi in a rowdy manner with wet colors, balloons and pistons in any of the University’s campus premises. The university has made clear that any students who will indulge in any form of harassment on the festival day would be punished under the anti-ragging and anti-eve-teasing provisions. "The principals, head of the departments and Provost of halls and hostels may form committees of teachers, students and ''karamcharis'' to prevent the entry of outsiders into the colleges and departments. Security guards should be posted at the gates to check the identity cards of visitors and students," the varsity said. “Control rooms jointly manned by Delhi Police and DTC authorities and the university officials at North and South Campus would function to deal with any untoward incident,” added the varsity. "All are requested to desist from playing of Holi in a rowdy manner and with wet colours/ balloons/ pistons in any educational institution. Entry to colleges/ departments/ centers/ halls/ hostels would be regulated through identity cards during the festival days," the advisory said. Along with all the cautionary measures, the university has also instructed principals, Dean of Faculties, head of the departments to remain available in case any incident happens on the premises. In case they were to leave the institution, another senior person should be deputed to fill in their absence, the university added. DU has also approached DTC and metro authorities regarding the safety concerns of the girl students during the holi week. "DTC drivers have been instructed to take the buses to the nearest police station in case any hooliganism or harassment of students is noticed in the buses, especially any incident targeted at girls," the varsity said.
