NEET made mandatory for the students who wish to pursue MBBS from abroad

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a common medical entrance exam which is conducted for admissions in the medical colleges and universities of the nation. But, now the exam has been made mandatory for the students who wish to pursue their MBBS studies from abroad. The proposal to made NEET mandatory for pursuing MBBS from abroad was approved last year by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Now students who want to pursue their medical studies from the foreign universities will also have to clear the NEET entrance test. The new regulation came into force from the date of publication in the official Gazette, which is March 14, 2019. According to the notification, "the result of NEET shall be valid for a period of three (3) years from the date of declaration of result, entitling a candidate to pursue MBBS or equivalent medical course including pre-medical/language course, if any, followed by MBBS or equivalent medical course for taking admission in an undergraduate medical course in a foreign medical institution.” Before this, students could study MBBS at universities in abroad but were required to clear the Foreign Medical Graduates Exam (FMGE) to register and be able to practice in India after completing their MBBS from overseas.
