The Government doubled the scholarships under the NTSE exam
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced the increase in the scholarships given under the National Talent Search Exam. From this year onwards, NCERT has increased the number of scholarships from 1000 to 2000. The amount of the scholarships was increased last year. "As on date 2000 scholarships are awarded in the country with reservation of 15 percent for SC, 7.5 percent for ST and 27 percent for other backward classes and 4 percent for the group of students with benchmark disabilities," said NCERT. The NTSE exam is held at two levels: Stage 1 -- State level Stage 2 -- National level The exam under the first stage is conducted on first Sunday of November except in Nagaland, Andaman and Nicobar Island, Meghalaya and Mizoram where it conducted on first Saturday of November. There is no negative marking in the exam and it tests the students in mental ability and scholastic aptitude. The second stage of the exam is held on the second Sunday of May. Only candidates who qualify the first stage of the exam are eligible to appear for the second stage. The exam is held in Assamiya, Bangla, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu languages.
